Seven Sisters

Traphina Sultan’s “Seven Sisters” tells one of the most profound and enduring Dreaming stories shared across many Aboriginal nations — the tale of the ancestral sisters who travel across the sky and the land, shaping Country as they flee from a pursuing spirit man.

In this work, flowing forms and luminous pathways represent both the celestial and earthly journey of the sisters. The interconnected circles and lines symbolise their camps, tracks, and sacred meeting places, while the swirling energy captures their movement through time and space.

Sultan’s interpretation reflects the strength, unity, and resilience of women — bound by kinship, knowledge, and the laws of creation. The piece is both cosmic and grounded, a celebration of female energy, ancestry, and the spiritual links between land, sky, and story that continue to guide and inspire her people.
